 www.victoria-mews.co.uk fully serviced self catering accommodation www.victoria-mews.co.uk fully serviced self catering accommodation fully serviced self catering accommodation prices start from only £35.00pn for 1 person staying 4 nights or longer and from only £50pn for 2 persons occpying a twin or double room staying 4 nights or longer. stays of less than 4 nights will be subject to an additional £5 charge pn. for the benefit and comfort of other guests we are sorry but we are unable to accept any pets on the property, we also do not accept stag and hen parties or any night clubbing groups. victoria-mews is a strictly a non-smoking property. at victoria-mews we offer competitivley priced fully serviced self catering accommodation in the riverside district of woolston, southampton, england. we are family operated and offer friendly personal service as standard. at victoria-mews all rooms are en-suite and equipped with a microwave,fridge,kettle,toaster,tea & coffee,all crockery & cuttlery is provided as is all bed linen with fresh towels being provided daily. some rooms have a fully equipped kitchen with cooker & washing machine so that longer stay guests may be completley self sufficient, ironing equippment and hairdryers are also available on request at no extra cost. these facilities give guests freedom from the formality of strict meal times and curfews often found in hotel or b&b/guest house type accommodation and of course the saving made by being able to prepare your own food and not having to constantly eat out. we also provide on site parking, which is available at no extra cost . although all vehicles and property are left at owners risk. personal service and our willingness to assist guests with local information including advice on public transport with timetables and maps etc and also places of interest to visit whilst in southampton has made us a very popular destination for many guests some of which return time and time again from as far a field as germany, holland, australia , south africa & the falkland islands. a little about the property and some local area history victoria-mews was formerly the old woolston dairy and is around 150 years old and was run by local businessman charles phipps and his family, the property is one of the original buildings in the victoria road area of woolston which is actually the woolston high street and was built long before woolston became anexed to the nearby town of southampton, it was then just a small village along with nearby neighbour itchen ferry village located on the eastern shores of the well known river itchen and it's confluence with the river test both of which then flow into southampton water and then on into the solent / english channel at the nothern tip of the isle of wight opposite cowes. both villages made their living predominantly from boat building and fishing and also the ferry business as the name sugests. with the exeption of the ferry business which was originaly by rowing boats and also for over 100 years a chain ferry known locally as the "floating bridge or the floatie" which was replaced in 1976 by a toll bridge linking woolston to the city centre of southampton the boatbuilding, fishing, and shell fishing trades continue to this day. our property was one of a few that survived the blitz [although heavily damaged] during ww2 with the buildings either side being totally destroyed by direct hits from ariel bombardment and heavy casualties sustained, this was mainly due to being located only 100mtrs from the original supermarine factory in hazel rd that manufactured the famous spitfire fighter plane designed by rj mitchell and well known to many for it's involvement in the battle of britain and slightly further along hazel road is the old whites shipyard which produced landing craft and motor torpedo boats [mtb's] during the war years, and also being a similar distance further along victoria road in the opposite direction was the former thornycroft shipyard [later vosper thorneycroft] which produced warships [mainly frigates and minesweepers] for many countries navy's worldwide for over 100 years, we are also located directly on the opposite river bank to southampton docks where the d-day invasion troops embarked for the normandy beach landings in june 1944. all things considered it's a wonder the place still exist's ! we still have the old chimney pots from the building complete with shrappnel holes although they now are full of flowers and in our garden. unfortunately the village of itchen ferry did'nt do so well and was pretty much erased from the map with very few traces of the original buildings still visible [unless you know where to look of course] home gallery price tariff directions contact us usefull links about us where to find us: www.victoria-mews.co.uk 6a victoria road, woolston, southampton, hampshire, england.so19 9dx. phone: +44 [0]2380 454245 07979 833353 077979 82310 email [email protected] or use our contact form . please call us on one of the above numbers when you are getting near to us, so we may arrange for someone to meet you on arrival .  how to find us please note due to a new one way system in woolston centre being introduced on monday 8 june 2015 directions to us have been updated. to find us from the m27 j8, just follow the signs for hamble to the roundabout and tesco store. turn onto b3397 (hamble lane) and continue ahead through 2 mini roundabouts. turn right onto b3025 portsmouth road (signposted woolston) and proceed past a large vauxhall car dealership on your left and then through 6 sets of traffic lights [only 3 are road junctions the other 4 are pedestrian crossings] please keep left when you approach the itchen toll bridge roundabout [please dont go over the bridge] at the sixth and final set which is a cross roads will be a former lloyds bank building on the left corner and a large steel sculpture of a feather on the right corner. due to a new one way system introduced on monday 8 june 2015 you will now have to turn left onto victoria road and pass the shops then turn first right at the junction with keswick road proceed down the hill and follow the road round to the right into woodley road where you will see a car park, at the end of the car park on your right just before the juntion with porsmouth road there is a small gravel lane, we are located at the far end on the right. if on foot or coming from woolston rail station from the junction of bridge rd /victoria rd & portsmouth rd head down hill toward the sea and on the left, at the end of a row of shops will be a property which was formerly a nat west bank with the old bingo hall /woolston cinema opposite. follow the wall of the old bank around the corner as if going to the back door of the bank, and you will see a gravel driveway. we are at the end on the right. the postcode for any satnav users is so19 9rz. this will take you to the former nat west bank which is now closed at the junction of woodley road and portsmouth road. please note: our main entrance and parking is at the rear of our building in woodley rd not victoria road. if you select our picture gallery option on our menu the last 2 pictures on the slide show, show a step by step guide from the front of our building in victoria rd [the main high street] to our entrance and parking at the rear of the property accessed from the driveway directly behind the former nat west bank property at the junction of portsmouth rd and woodley rd. woolston also has its own rail station on the southampton to portsmouth line and is 2 mins walk from our building. a link to the train times is available if you click the usefull links option on our menu. any bus from southampton city centre going to woolston will stop at the woolston end of the river itchen toll bridge at woolston link road which is only 2/3 mins walk from us and is the stop to get off at. a link to first bus timetables is available, jus
